AI Evolution Horizon: From Assistance to Partnership to Pioneering
A short reflection on Anthropic:s AI Claude
Looking at this progression curve from the Claude 3.7 Sonnet presentation, I'm struck by how it reflects the paradigm shift we're facing in the relationship between humans and machines – precisely the theme we've explored throughout our blog series.
The curve shows not just technological development but a fundamental change in relationship dynamics: from Claude as assistant in 2024, to collaborator in 2025, to pioneer by 2027. This rapid transformation – just three years – forces us to reconsider the entire interplay between human and machine, not just individual aspects.
We find ourselves in the eye of a storm – a paradigm shift reshaping our entire society. This isn't merely about new tools but a fundamental renegotiation of the relationships between science, technology, and human structures.
I see parallels to our discussions about knowledge transfer and translation between different levels. As AI evolves from supporting to collaborating as an equal, the hourglass structure fundamentally changes. What happens to the intermediate layers in this structure? How is professional judgment reshaped when the machine becomes more than a tool?
This echoes the tension between human and machine in welfare systems – but intensifies the question. When AI doesn't just follow rules but also creates breakthroughs, our entire understanding of professional knowledge and authority is challenged.
What this will look like on the other side of this shift, we don't yet know. My texts in this series represent an attempt to process and explore how we might think about these components and their interplay during this transformative time. The hourglass metaphor takes on new relevance when we see this curve – what happens when the machine can move through all levels with speed and capacity that exceeds the human?
